Fact-checking policy

Every WorldPing brief traces back to a named newsroom's published reporting. This page explains the checks that sit between that report and our page.

Verification standards

A brief is only published when an identified, accountable newsroom has reported it.
Facts, figures and quotes are taken from that report and never paraphrased into a stronger claim.
Where several newsrooms cover the same event, we show a coverage timeline so readers can see who reported what and when.
Single-source claims that no other newsroom has confirmed stay attributed to that one source in the brief.

Unconfirmed and developing stories

Developing stories change. Where a report is preliminary, the brief keeps the source's own hedging and the page shows the publication time so readers can judge how current it is. If the underlying report is later corrected or withdrawn, we follow our corrections policy.

What we never do

Invent quotes, statistics, ratings, testimonials or results.
Present rumour, betting speculation or social posts as confirmed fact.
Publish a brief without naming the newsroom behind the original reporting.
Use generated text to fill in details the source did not report.
